To keep your messaging service running smoothly, Textline is now required to collect your Business Registration Number (BRN). This requirement applies to all customers and all messaging numbers on our platform.
What Is a Business Registration Number (BRN)?
A Business Registration Number (BRN) is a government-issued identifier that verifies your business is legally registered in your country.
Different countries use different terms, but they all serve the same purpose: validating your business as a legitimate sender of text messages.
Below is a general overview of what you’ll need based on your business location.
For U.S.–Based Businesses
If your business is registered in the United States, your BRN is simply your:
Employer Identification Number (EIN)
Issued by the IRS and formatted as a 9-digit identifier like: 12-3456789
This is the only number/information required for U.S. customers to satisfy these new requirements. You can register for an EIN here.
For Non-U.S. Businesses
If your business is registered outside the United States, you will need to provide two pieces of information:
Your Business Registration Number (BRN)
This may be called a Company Number, Business ID, ABN (Australia), VAT Number (EU/UK), GST Number, or another country-specific registration identifier.Your Registration Authority
This is the government agency or registry that issued your BRN.
Examples include:Companies House (UK)
ASIC (Australia)
Canada Revenue Agency
Ministry of Corporate Affairs (India)
Commercial Registry (various EU countries)
You can typically find both your BRN and the issuing authority on your business registration documents or government business portal.
Why Is Textline Collecting BRN Information?
Textline is collecting BRNs to comply with new industry-wide requirements from carriers and messaging partners. These requirements help ensure that all business messaging in the U.S. and internationally is sent by verified, legitimate organizations.
Collecting BRN information supports:
1. Industry Compliance
Carriers and industry registries (such as The Campaign Registry, Twilio, Bandwidth, and others) now require verified business information for all types of messaging, including toll-free numbers.
This verification ensures responsible use of messaging channels and protects the ecosystem from fraud, spam, and abuse.
2. Uninterrupted Message Delivery
Providing your BRN helps us prevent messaging disruptions. Carriers may delay or block traffic from unverified senders, and businesses without validated registration details may experience compliance-related filtering.
Submitting your BRN ensures:
Your messaging traffic remains fully compliant
Your numbers stay active
Your deliverability is not impacted
3. Standardized Global Requirements
BRN verification is already required for A2P/10DLC messaging and is now being extended across additional number types industry-wide.
By collecting your BRN proactively, we help ensure your business is aligned with these evolving global standards.
Why Is Textline Requesting This Information Now?
Textline is gathering this information to stay ahead of compliance changes introduced by our messaging partners and carriers. These partners increasingly require us to provide verified business details before continuing to support messaging traffic for any customer.
By submitting your BRN now, you help us:
Maintain uninterrupted service for your account
Avoid potential compliance reviews or traffic restrictions
Ensure your business remains fully eligible to send messages across all carriers
Continue supporting your existing numbers without the need for additional verification steps later
Providing your BRN is a small step that helps protect your messaging operations from future regulatory updates.
How Long Does This Take?
Most customers can complete the BRN submission process in under 2 minutes.
You’ll be asked to enter:
Your EIN (U.S.)
OR
Your BRN and the relevant Registration/Issuing Authority (Non-U.S.)
No documents are required - just the information itself.
Is My Information Secure?
Yes. Textline only uses your BRN for required compliance checks with our messaging providers and carriers.
Your information is encrypted, stored securely, and never shared for any purpose unrelated to messaging compliance.
